Dentists use dental notation, also known as the ANSI/ADA/ISO Tooth Numbering System, to represent teeth while documenting or discussing them. It is a method for visually displaying and relating the presence and arrangement of teeth in a dentition.

How many Different Dental Notations Exist?

The Palmer notation technique, the universal numbering system, and the FDI global dental federation notation (ANSI/ADA/ISO Tooth Numbering System) are the three most prevalent dental notations.
