At Oral Health Center, we can save infected and damaged teeth by performing root canals. This procedure can be incredibly beneficial by allowing your natural teeth to remain intact.
Root canal therapy is not typically a painful procedure, but there may be discomfort during the recovery process. To minimize this discomfort, reduce the risk of an oral infection and ensure a fast recovery, it is important to understand and follow useful root canal treatment aftercare tips from a general dentist. Here are Five things to do after a Root Canal.
- Take ibuprofen. This will help reduce swelling and keep you comfortable. You may need to take ibuprofen for a couple of days up to a week. Afterward, any discomfort you feel should go away.
- Use ice or a cold compress. Apply this to your face, but be careful not to put ice directly onto your skin. We recommend this for 15 minutes at a time on the day you have a root canal.
- Eat soft foods. After an endodontics procedure, you need to avoid eating anything that is hard, scratchy, or could irritate your gums.
- Brush carefully. You need to brush your teeth but do so carefully so the toothbrush does not irritate your tooth.
- Avoid touching the area with your tongue or food. You want to let the area heal, and it will be sensitive for a few days after your endodontics procedure, so be careful to avoid touching it.
We perform root canals on a regular basis and can use this endodontic procedure to restore your oral health. If you are currently suffering from tooth pain or sensitivity, call 614-888-6811 to schedule an appointment with our Westerville office.
